Abandoned

Sketchbook

People and objects are abandoned often. Abandonment occurs so often that people are affected by it in many ways. For my picture I have two people reaching out to grab each others hand, but can’t quite reach. By having the subjects reaching out to each other but not grabbing each other’s hands represents the abandonment. The space between their hands represents the space between their relationship and how one abandoned the other for their own reasons.  One of them may not care as much or may not be trying as hard to stay in the relationship which is why the people aren’t holding hands.

The person’s hand on the right looks strained as if they are trying their hardest to reach out to the other person and grab their hand. This is the person that was abandoned and is trying to get that person back as their friend. The person on the left side doesn’t look as if they are trying as hard to grab their hand but is instead pretending to. The significance of the two people grabbing for each other’s hands is that when they finally reach each other their relationship is unified and strengthened because they are together once again rather than one being left out. The hidden message behind this photo is that people may abandon others for a reason. Even if you don’t know the reason the point is to move on and continue with life rather than trying to reunite with a relationship that the other person will “pretend” to want as much as you do.
