Ownership

Sketchbook

Ownership is defined as the act, state, or right of possessing something. I wanted to take ownership to another level by having the person taking possession of someone else in an aggressive and controlling way. Many people nowadays are in controlling and abusive relationships. I wanted to portray this in my photo my showing someone aggressively grabbing the other person in the relationship.

The photo is taken in front of a black backdrop because I wanted the focus to be solely on the person’s arms rather than the background distracting from that. The person on the right has the name “Mike” written on their arm. The name Mike is the other person in the relationship in which is being aggressive.  This symbolizes how the person is being taken control of and being “owned” by the other person in the relationship. The person with the writing on their arm is positioned in a way that looks like they are trying to pull away, as if they are trying to pull away from the relationship. The person on the left is grabbing the other person’s arm to show that they won’t let them go. Their hand is tightly gripped around the other’s arm to symbolize how they will never let them go and are in control of them. The photo has a gloomy and darker aspect of it to reflect the mood. The mood is depressing due to the seriousness of ownership gone wrong. Having the photo edited like this portrays the aggressive and possessive side of taking ownership. No one should be controlled like this, yet some people still do it.
