​All kids want to do when they are younger is grow up. To express this in a photo I made the kid in the photo dress like an adult and read a politics book. Having the kid dressed up like an adult and reading a book about politics symbolizes the kid wanting to grow up faster. The kid is also sitting in a big comfy chair because that is the “ideal” chair you would find your grandpa sitting in when you visit him.

Before I began taking the photos I was thinking of many ideas to do. For example, I was thinking of taking a picture of a kid using their imagination, or a kid wanting to grow up faster. I decided that many people would do a photo of a kid showing their imagination but not many people will take a photo of a kid wanting to be an adult. My original idea was to take a photo of a little girl putting on makeup and a little boy putting on a suit. I ultimately decided to take a picture of the little boy reading a sophisticated book instead.

As I was taking the photo I made sure the viewer could see the little boy’s outfit, so they knew he was wearing more of an “adult” outfit rather than normal kid outfit. I also had the lamp on the left side of the photo because it adds to the photo when you read a book you have a lamp next to you to help read. I took the environment into account so I could portray the idea best. Overall the outfit, environment, and props makes the photo stronger and expresses the message of childhood decreasing as the years go on.
