MCKENZIE STYLC
Strongest Photo
This photograph is my strongest because it includes many techniques that were needed to create the effect the photo has. For example, the photo is done on film and is an overlapping film concept. It includes many frames of the negatives so it causes lines to appear on the photo. Then it also has ideas from both parts of the film. For instance, the one word was ugly and the next word was eyes. This causes the photo to have a double exposed look for both of those concepts. Even though the photo has this effect, many techniques were used in taking the photo. When it comes to taking photos on the film camera you must make sure everything is working properly and that the camera is set to all the settings you want. Then you must set up your photo by using the principles of composition. Even though it is hard to tell with the overlapping of the photos, I mainly used the rule of thirds to help improve my composition. By looking at the photo you can tell rule of thirds was used because both of the characters aren't in the middle, they are more towards the right of the photograph with the background taking up some of the space as well. Also in the photograph, the double exposure helped create a silhouette of a person with the background of the photographs filling it in. Even though it wasn't so much as planned it is still showcasing a technique we used with our pinhole cameras. I consider this my strongest photo because it uses a new technique we learned this year and also many more techniques we learned before. Overall I believe this photo showcases both ideas well and is executed properly.
Represents Me
This photograph is the one that most represents me because it is of someone that means the world to me. Since the subject of the photo is someone very important to me and the description of the photo is very personal, I believe it caused the photo to turn out better. Overall I paid more attention to little details abut her to include in the photograph then I usually do. For example, she wears glasses every day and because the glasses were causes a glare I decided to still include them on the right of the chest she was leaning on but made sure it did not look too staged at the same time. Also, I took many photos to really capture her facial expression more instead of telling her to make a face to match the word nostalgic. I feel like in the photo I used many techniques from photo such as rule of thirds, a little of the edge of the frame, and even texture and pattern. I used the rule of thirds by having her more to the left instead of right in the middle. Some of her body is cut off so that can be considered edge of the frame as well. Lastly, I used texture and pattern because I made sure the shirt she was holding was not going to blend into what she is wearing. Knowing she was wearing a gray sweater I chose a white color based shirt so it would contrast with what she is wearing. In my opinion, this photo also represents me best because in the caption it talks about her Alzheimers disease and that is something she has to live with and so do I, so it is a very personal photograph overall.
